One of Huffington Post’s Best Albums of 2010 – Maurice Brown – The Cycle of Love

Congrats to Maurice Brown on being listed in the Huffington Post’s Best Albums of 2010, calling it “the stand-out jazz release of 2010.”
Now, here’s the review our editor Chris wrote for it:
Though his trumpet playing has graced the albums of hip hop and soul artists like Aretha Franklin,Talib Kweli, Wyclef Jean, Cee-Lo, De La Soul, The Roots, and Diddy, this young talent has not abandoned the rich heritage of jazz music that inspired him early on. Instead, Maurice Brown has somehow found a way to seamlessly fuse the instrumentation and attitude of a hard-bop combo with R&B romanticism, urban grooves, and hip hop energy. Jason Koransky from Downbeat Magazine has said that “Brown is one of the most exciting young trumpeters in jazz–be it New Orleans or New York. His improvisations are fresh, his chops dynamic and he’s writing what could very well become a new generation of hard-bop-meets-new-grooves standards.”
