With styles ranging from country pop and rock to bluegrassy ballads and with a handful of albums under his belt, San Diego’s Alex Woodard has grown quite adept and his own style of finely crafted Americana. Backed by a top-notch band, Woodard sings of highways (Halfway, Photograph), growing up (Older, Billie Holiday), a lover lost to cancer (The Table), other reflections on life and it’s possibilities. An added treat of the album are the guest appearances by Nickel Creek’s Sara Watkins on both vocals and violin, former Posies and Sunny Day Real Estate bassist Joe Skyward, plus former Posies and Fountains of Wayne drummer Brian Young is one of Woodard’s core band members. With a voice reminiscent of Tom Petty, Woodard has a knack for writing songs that are introspective, heartfelt, and good stories to boot.
