Straight out of Cork: armed with witty, insightful lyrics and an upbeat sound that evokes elements of 60’s folk mixed with peppy modern folk groups like The Decemberists and Belle & Sebastian, this album has a clean, full mix and plenty going for it. With lead vocals from Catherine Ireton, who recently collaborated with Belle & Sebastian leader Stuart Murdoch on the “God Help the Girl†project, the vocals are the clear highlight of many of the songs, while the occasional violin or trumpet help spice things up in the instrumental department. The song titles alone get bonus points, plus jaunty folk pop with the occasional expletive is sure to ruffle a few cardigans. And that’s a good thing. While this style might not be the first sound the comes to mind when you think of Irish music, this is fun stuff and worth checking out.
